PLEASE NOTE- this is a MOCK TRAIL EVENT and we are working to be inclusive of as many actively trialing teams as possible. If you note any discrepancies with this premium please contact the host for clarification. These polices are also subject to change to best reflect our goal to include multiple levels of teams in Level 3 and Elite style trials.

Our locations are real life search environments where people work, go to school, etc. Pre-trial visits risk the host losing the opportunity to use the location again in the future.

Registration Entry and Closing:

This mock trial event will utilize general nose work trial rules and framework as guidelines. This IS NOT an NACSW™ sanctioned event. 

EXPANDED ENTRY PRIORITY: Entry rules are modified to provide for qualified entries received during the entry period with qualified priority entry expanded as above. 

ADDITIONAL ENTRIES: If the trial is not full by the end of the entry period on TBD additional entries may be added. Entries will be accepted in the priority listed below until the 25 entries are filled. A wait list will be maintained after entries are received 

Trial entry will open TBD Mountain Time. Entries will be awarded by random draw of all entries received between TBD.
● Trial entry will close when entries fill after the draw period or remain open if not filled through the event dates.

● The trial host of an event has the right to refuse entry of any competitor or dog for just cause at Host discretion.
● Note: We will not be taking payment until you are given a space in the trial. If you are given a space in the trial, you will receive information on how to submit payment. You will then have 48 hours to complete your payment to confirm your space in the trial.

Entry Method:
Trial spaces will be awarded in the following manner:

● Spaces will be awarded by a random draw of all Qualified Entries (see below) received between 10AM Mountain Time, TBD  and 10AM Mountain Time, TBD.
● In the event that you are having technical difficulties with the entry system, please email mtnnosework@gmail.com prior to the end of the draw period. Your email will time stamp your entry attempt.

● After all entries received during the draw period are processed, if the trial level is still not full, entries will continue to be accepted in the order they are received through the event date or when entries fill.

• You may enter multiple dogs for entry in the draw. However, only one dog/handler will be accepted into the trial unless the trial is not full. Second dogs (or more) may be entered if the trial is not full, on January 10, 2017. 

● Some trial entries may be given priority entry based on contributions to the Host as volunteers for this mock trial event. Key volunteers may also be given first spaces in the running order to compete and then offer volunteer services for the remainder of the trial day. These may include the Host, Score Room Leads, Score Room Staff, Volunteer Coordinator, Video Services or others needed based on volunteers available for the trial day.

A Qualified Entry is one that meets all of the following criteria
1. Complete the on-line trial registration between 10AM TBD and 10AM Mountain Time, TBD.
2. Qualified Entries will be received in the entry order described above. 

You will be notified via e-mail of the results of the random draw by 5:00PM (Mountain time) TBD If you are given a space in the trial, you will receive information on how to submit payment. You will then have 48 hours to complete your payment to confirm your space in the trial.
A waiting list for alternates will be started as soon as entries fill.

Alternates will be contacted when a space opens up. 
Note: Depending on last minute trial logistics, we may opt to not fill all canceled spaces.

Cancellation Policy:
Refunds
The following cancellation policy applies:
• For cancellation of entries on or before 5 pm Mountain Time TBD – Full refund minus $10 processing fee.
• For cancellation of entries after 5 pm TBD – no refunds will be issued (unless spot is filled).  All cancellations must be emailed to mtnnosework@gmail.com. 
• Entry fees shall not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, or excused by the Certifying Official or judge.

This cancellation and refund policy applies to competitors that must withdraw for any reason including but not limited to injury, illness, emergency, and personal or work-related reasons.

No part of the fee will be refunded if the trial cannot take place or be completed by reason of fire, civil disturbances, an Act of God, public emergency, or any other cause beyond the control of the trial organizers.

Trial Conditions:
Modeled after real-life detection work, MOUNTAIN DOG MOCK TRIALS are held in many different locations, with a variety of terrain, under varying weather conditions. Dogs and handlers need to be able to safely negotiate a variety of surfaces, including, but not limited to, tile, linoleum, carpeting, gravel, asphalt, uneven surfaces, and slippery footing. Handlers should be prepared to deal with a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain and snow. Trials frequently require covering extensive distances to get to and from the parking area to each of the search areas and generally require that this be done across natural, uneven surfaces. Handlers should be prepared for the physical demands and must be able to navigate the terrain with their dog accordingly.
Participants should expect to spend most of the day outside or in their vehicles as there are rarely indoor crating options at trials. Please be prepared for you and your canine partner to deal with all of these varying environmental challenges. Handlers agree that they are entering this trial at their own risk.

Competitor-Key Volunteers - To facilitate obtaining sufficient volunteers we MAY recruit volunteers from our competitor entries for key volunteer positions including score room lead, score room staff, volunteer coordinator, judges stewards, timers, video assistants (we may offer to video competitor searches on a competitor provided video device) and dog in white. These KEY VOLUNTEERS may be requested to arrive at the trial site early for set up, trial organization and stay later for clean up. Further, the KEY VOLUNTEERS who are also competitors will be SCHEDULED to run as the FIRST competitors in the running order. This is not intended to provide an unfair advantage to the COMPETITOR-KEY VOLUNTEERS but is a necessity in organizing trial staff to provide support services for the effective and efficient operation of the Mock Trial day. Additionally, the host may also elect to be a competitor and enter the trial level/day for which they are also hosting.

Competitor- Key Volunteers MAY additionally have access throughout the trial day to the score room, search areas or hospitality areas. These Key Volunteers understand and agree to keep search area specifics and hide locations confidential as needed in keeping with similar rules in sanctioned trials. 

Hospitality and Key Volunteers- At most trial sites we may also provide a volunteer hospitality area which may also function as the score room. For this reason we may determine only Key Volunteers may have access to the hospitality area and snacks, beverage or lunches may be offered but restricted to Key Volunteers. It is important that when the hospitality area is shared with the score room that the Key Volunteers respect the score room staff needs for a quiet environment and confidentiality to conduct scoring. To do so we may restrict access to this area to specific Key Volunteers, Judges and Certifying Official. At many trial sites indoor crating MAY be restricted and not available to all Key Volunteers. We ask our Key Volunteers to plan accordingly.

Trial Levels- Multiple level competitors MAY participate in the same trial level on the same trial day (Level 1-2-3 or Elite all competing on the same trial day). Each competitor will be asked prior to each search whether they choose to conduct the search with KNOWN number of hides or with KNOWN hide location. These designations will be marked on the competitors score sheet and duly noted in the scoring spreadsheet for placement purposes.

Trial Entry- Trial Entry is restricted to ONLY those dog teams who enter PRIOR to the trial day pursuant to the Trial Entry specifics noted in the applicable premium. Entries requested day of the event or by walk in will be denied even in the event the trial is NOT full. This is important for pre-event planning and effective efficient trial day operations.  

Double Dog Entry - Double dogs, or entering a second dog- same trial day, will be accepted per the premium specifics. A competitor entering two dogs (or more) on the same trial day (provided the trial is not full and the double dog or more entry is accepted and confirmed per the premium specifics) will designate which dog(s) will run as an FEO entry (for exhibition only). The FEO dog(s) will receive a score sheet on which it is noted as an FEO entry with KNOWN number of hides and KNOWN location of hides for placement determination, as applicable for the trial level on that trial day.

FEO Entry - Any competitor may elect to participate as an FEO entry. FEO entries will receive a score sheet but will not be considered for placement for overall or individual search placements. 

Search Areas- The trial search areas may be open for end of the day walk thru and hide location discussion with the Judge and CO. These areas ARE NOT available for additional searches with ANY dog and non-entered dogs will be NOT allowed to do searches on the Trial premises. 

Trial Location:

This trail location may be above sea level and may require walking some distances from the parking area to the search areas, walking on hilly and sloping terrain and dirt roads, dirt parking lots or paths.  If you don’t feel you can safely and comfortably walk these distances at altitude then you may not want to enter this trail.

This trial location is TBD; This location may have mild winter or cold winter temperatures with wind or snow.  All attendees (competitors, volunteers and officials) should plan to wear appropriate clothing including outer layers with the ability to add or decrease layers throughout the day.

The competitor parking lot is paved.  The pathways to the search areas maybe paved sidewalks or dirt road/paths and include some slight sloping terrain.  The search areas may include pavement, dirt or level ground.  The event facility is large and spread out so there may be some fairly long walks to the search areas. Due to unforeseen conditions, such as weather or change in availability of areas at the location, the expected search areas, parking, and pathways to the search areas may be modified at the last minute.


Altitude: Note this facility is located at an elevation of 6378 feet above sea level. You should drink plenty of water upon arrival and continue hydration for anyone not used to being at elevation. 

Liability:
By registering for the trial, the competitor hereby assumes all risks of, and responsibility for, accidents and/or damage to her/himself or to her/his property or to others, resulting from the actions of her/his dog. The competitor understands THIS IS NOT AN  NACSW™ SANCTIONED TRIAL DAY, and further acknowledges and agrees that Mountain Dogs LLC and/or its assignees or any other person, or persons, of said groups, shall not be held liable personally, or collectively, under any circumstances, for injury, and/or damage to her/himself, for loss or injury to property, whether due to uncontrolled dogs or negligence of any member of said groups, or any other cause, or causes. The competitor also agrees to assume all financial liability that may be incurred by the HOST Mountain Dogs LLC due to the actions of themselves or their dogs regardless of the cause.

Dog Policies:
● All dogs must be on a 6’ leash at all times when not being tested. NO flexi- leashes while not participating in a competition search.
● Reactive and/or spatially challenged dogs should wear a red bandana (to be provided by the dog’s handler) to help signal others that the dog needs extra space from other dogs.
● Dogs will be toileted in designated areas and handlers must pick-up and dispose of waste.
● Dogs and handlers must stay in designated areas to avoid contaminating testing space, interrupting a test, or from viewing any part of the testing.
● Please leave unentered dogs at home.
● Competitors should expect to keep their dogs confined in a crate or vehicle when not competing. The logistics of a trial typically do not allow for dogs to hang out on leash in between searches. Competitors should plan to provide their own shade using canopies or shade cloths.

Females in Season:
Will be allowed to run wearing “pants” at the very end of the running orders after all other dogs have been judged. Females in season will be parked and potty in areas separate from the other dogs while at the trial if the location logistics permit. Handlers must contact mtnnosework@gmail.com so plans can be made for the dog.


RV Parking:
There is very limited space for RVs to park in the competitor parking area during the trial day. To reserve a space you will need to contact the host at mtnnosework@gmail.com after you receive a confirmation that you have received a space in the trial. No overnight RV parking is available.

Smoking:
Smoking is not allowed on this trial site, including the use of e-cigarettes.


Sportsmanship:
All competitors/handlers and spectators are expected to guidelines of good sportsmanship. This includes making sure the hide placements are unknown to the handler prior to testing and kept secret from other competitors. Please do not discuss hide placement or any details of a dog's performance that may provide information or clues to other handlers or may be overheard.

Spectators:
Family members and friends are welcome to watch certain elements if there is appropriate viewing space for a gallery that will not interfere with the dog working or the judging. Limits may be put on the number of spectators depending on the turn out. Children under 18 must be directly supervised at all times. Spectators MUST check-in at registration, sign a waiver, and get a name badge. No dogs will be allowed in the spectator area. No unentered dogs are allowed at the trial. Spectators are reminded that the hide placements must not be discussed nor should they speak with any competitors about what they saw until after the trial is complete. Competitors are not allowed to watch the trial at anytime. Competitors may opt to spectate other competitor teams once they have run their dog. Every competitor may opt and ask for NO SPECTATORS as well.

Video Taping and Photography:
Videos and photos of the competition or competition areas are ALLOWED for this event. 

NO VIDEO VERIFICATION- There will be NO VIDEO of competitor teams for purposes of trial event verification (start line, search time, faults, finish call etc). 

Hotels and Directions:
A list of area hotels will be provided with entry confirmations.
